We can now report that the “dynamic duo” of Judy Sheridan and Pat Kane have reversed gears and decided to endorse the agreement reached a week ago by NYSNA, 1199 and the CWA along with Hospital Industry representatives under the watchful eye of the New York State Legislature. While the board of directors were told of the proposals no vote was ever taken.
Although NYSNA sat on the Union’s side of the negotiations, they originally decided to walk away. What NYSNAISEEYOU learned is that Pat and Judy came under enormous pressure from the other unions, State Legislators and even within Judy and Pat’s own NYSNA inner circle.
Nurses in New York State can be relieved that this disaster was turned around, but with a high cost. Through this process the other unions learned that NYSNA’s present leaders are untrustworthty partners. The State Legislators have been burned by NYSNA’s erratic involvement. Usually you make lemonade out of lemons, in this case Judy and Pat have managed to make lemons out of lemonade.
